question 7
looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Looking back at our preliminary task we are able to see that we have learnt more about media techniques and developed our skills within many different media areas.
TRIPOD
In our preliminary task we failed to use a tripod, which is clear to see through the unsteadiness of the camera. Tripods enable a secure and stable base for the camera, making the filming look more professional. Without a tripod, it is difficult to create and maintain a neat looking shot. In our opening title sequence we made sure every shot was filmed with the help of a tripod, for the shots that we wanted to look still. For example, when the camera quickly zooms up into Cassie's face for her to say "because I'll always find you", we wanted a 'wobbly' effect to make it look more sinister.
BETTER ACTING
Our preliminary task helped us to understand that Alisha was uncomfortable in front of the camera and it did not look natural. This showed her that she was not willing to be a major part in our opening title sequence. Our preliminary task looked unprofessional because of the acting, therefore, Alisha encouraged that Talitha played the main role in our final product. This task helped us to develop an understanding that we needed to put a lot of thought into our casting to ensure our product achieved the best outcome. Our opening title sequence turned out successful, especially due to the fact that both Talitha and Solomon study AS Drama, whereas, Alisha and Anna do not.
EDITING
In this task, we did not use any extra effects of colour. This looked professional and not too childish, therefore, we wanted to make sure we added nothing to our opening title sequence. However, when it came to editing, we decided that our flashback scenes needed a washed out effect to make the clarification between what was past and present in our opening title sequence.
In our preliminary task, we used a cross-fade between each different shots to create a smooth transition. This looked neat, therefore, we knew it would make our opening title sequence look much better.
